Agartala, 28th November 2025: The West Tripura district has set a target to cultivate oil palm on 1,041 hectares of land in the current financial year under the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oil Palm project. According to information from the Office of the Deputy Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, a total of 578.28 hectares had already been planted with oil palm saplings as of November.
Plantation activities have been carried out across several blocks in the district. So far, 64 hectares have been planted in Bamutia block, 36.7 hectares in Jirania, 142.5 hectares in Mandai, 133 hectares in Belbari, 44.36 hectares in Mohanpur, 113.32 hectares in Hezamara, 30.4 hectares in Lefunga, and 14 hectares in Dukli block.
Officials said the project aims to boost edible oil production and expand oil palm cultivation across suitable areas in the district.
