Agartala, 5th February 2024 :   Bidyut Das, a 100% Divyangan youth, has been selling vegetables on his government-provided manual wheelchair for the past two years. Despite facing many challenges and hardships, he has not given up on his dream of becoming financially self-sufficient and supporting his family of five.

Bidyut, who passed secondary school, had applied for several government jobs but was rejected due to his disability. He also approached many leaders and ministers for help, but to no avail. With the family pressure and financial burden increasing, he decided to start his own business of ferrying vegetables from Para to Para every morning.

He made wooden boxes on his own hand-powered wheelchair and filled them with different kinds of vegetables. He then went around the streets, offering his fresh produce to the customers. He said that he earns enough to cover the basic needs of his family, along with the divyangan allowance given by the government.

However, Bidyut admitted that it is very difficult to drive a manual wheelchair on the uneven roads and in the scorching heat. He said that he wished he had a motorized wheelchair or a TomTom, which would make his work easier and faster. He said that he had requested the government for such a vehicle, but did not receive any response.

Bidyut said that he has lost hope of getting a government job or a TomTom, and that he relies only on his wheelchair and his willpower. He said that he is proud of his work and that he wants to live with dignity and respect. He also said that he hopes to inspire other Divyangan people to overcome their obstacles and pursue their dreams.
