Agartala, 5th February 2024 :   Prasenjit Das, the secretary of BJP’s Yuva Morcha in Golaghati, was brutally attacked by cow smugglers and workers of the own party on Monday morning. He is currently in a critical condition at TMC & Dr BRAM Teaching Hospital, Hapania.

The incident took place when Prasenjit Das, along with some locals, stopped a car carrying cows through Kanchanmala market, where a five-day Harinam Sankirtan had just ended. Prasenjit Das asked the cow smugglers to show the documents of the cows, but found discrepancies in the number of cows mentioned in the papers and the actual number of cows in the vehicle.

When he questioned the cow smugglers, he was assaulted by Abhijit Biswas, the president of Booth No. 10 of Pal Colony, and two other workers of the BJP, Ranjan Karmakar and Prabir Biswas. They beat him up mercilessly and left him unconscious on the ground. They then fled the scene, leaving the car and the cows behind.

The witnesses rushed Prasenjit Das to the Kanchanmala Primary Health Center, where he was referred to Tripura Medical College & Dr BRAM Teaching Hospital, Hapania due to his serious injuries. His family has filed a case against the attackers at Amtali police station, and also accused former mandal president Nitai Shil of being involved in the conspiracy. The police have promised to investigate the matter and take action against the culprits.

This incident has raised questions about the law and order situation in Golaghati, where allegations of various crimes, including cow theft and incidents related to women, have been reported. The ruling party has been accused of failing to provide good governance and security to the people ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
