Agartala, 9th June 2025:  The tragic financial hardship of widow Monika Biswas has come to light after she was denied widow allowance, forcing her to break bricks to earn a meager income despite her deteriorating health.

Monika, a resident of Kanchanmala Bazar under Golaghati assembly constituency lost her husband Paresh Biswas a few months back due to sudden illness. Paresh was the sole earning member of the family, supporting his elderly mother, sick wife, and two daughters. His untimely demise left the family in financial ruin.

Despite assurances from neighbors and well-wishers after Paresh’s death, no tangible help has reached the grieving household. Due to her illness, Monika cannot take on strenuous labor, yet she was compelled to work as a brick-breaker in Kanchanmala Bazar to provide food for her mother-in-law and children. Her limited capacity to work results in minimal earnings, making survival a daily struggle.

Seeking government aid, Monika approached the Dukli CDPO office for widow allowance but was informed she was not eligible at the moment. Devastated, she returned home empty-handed, with no option but to continue her strenuous labor.

With her health deteriorating and her children’s future uncertain, Monika has now turned to the media, appealing to the Chief Minister for intervention. She urges the government to provide assistance not only for her survival but also for her daughters’ education and welfare.
