Agartala, 27th April 2025: A shocking incident has come to light in Teliamura, where Dipanwita Sarkar Pal, a young mother was allegedly burnt to death under suspicious circumstances.
Dipanwita, who married Tanmoy Pal, son of Tapan Pal, who is a prominent left leader of Teliamura just a year and a half back had been facing marital discord for the past seven months. The couple has a 10-month-old child. According to Dipanwita’s father, trouble began when he found that Tanmoy was allegedly involved in an illicit relationship with another woman from the same area. “My daughter was suffering in silence and her in-laws supported Tanmoy instead of addressing the issue,” he said.
Fifteen days back, Dipanwita moved back to her parents’ house in Agartala. However, Tanmoy visited her at her parents’ home on the night of April 25 last citing concerns about their child’s health. Following a doctor’s advice, the couple decided to take their child to another state for treatment. This morning, Dipanwita returned to her husband’s house, reportedly for the sake of her child’s future.
The situation took a grim turn yesterday evening when Dipanwita called her mother alleging that her husband, brother-in-law Monty Pal and father-in-law Tapan Pal were plotting to kill her. “She told me they planned to burn her alive,” her mother tearfully recounted. Just 15 to 20 minutes later, Dipanwita’s father-in-law called her father claiming that she had set herself on fire.
Dipanwita’s parents rushed to the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital, where they found her dead body. Her father alleged foul play stating, “My daughter did not take her own life; she was murdered.” Meanwhile, Dipanwita’s mother staged a protest outside the Teliamura police station demanding justice and accusing her daughter’s in-laws of staging her death.
The Teliamura police have arrested Tanmoy Pal and are investigating the case. Forensic experts visited the scene this morning to collect evidence and an autopsy was conducted at the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital in the presence of an Executive Magistrate. The body has since been handed over to the family.
As the police investigation continues, the mystery surrounding Dipanwita’s tragic death remains unresolved.
