Agartala: July 25. A woman identified as Salma Khatun from Noapara area of Kamala Sagar Assembly has come forward with a serious complaint of fraud and misappropriation of funds against an insurance settlement agent. The accused agent, Tapas Bhowmik, hailing from Golaghati area, allegedly duped Khatun by embezzling her hard-earned savings meant for an insurance policy.
According to Khatun, the insurance policy was taken out with Tapas Bhowmik in 2021, with a monthly deposit of 730 rupees. However, after a year of regular deposits, the agent failed to provide any receipt to Ms. Khatun. Growing suspicious, she demanded evidence of her payments and was eventually given two receipts dated in 2022. The woman was taken aback as she had only purchased a single policy, raising concerns about the missing deposit for an entire year.
Despite attempts by Tapas Bhowmik to explain the situation, Khatun firmly believes that the agent has deceived her and misappropriated her savings over the course of one year. Frustrated by the alleged fraudulent activities, Khatun has sought the support of the administration and is demanding swift action to bring the accused to justice.
Local authorities have been notified of the complaint, and an investigation into the matter is underway to ascertain the veracity of the claims made by Khatun. The administration has assured the victim of a fair inquiry and promised to take appropriate action against the accused agent if found guilty.
Such incidents of financial fraud are a serious concern and raise alarms about the safety and security of hardworking individuals seeking to secure their future through insurance policies.
