Agartala, 20th March 2024: In a determined show of solidarity, the women’s group staged a protest at the office of the North District Superintendent of Police. The demonstration was sparked by a heinous assault on a local woman, which took place on March 14. The attack, deemed to have been premeditated with lethal intent, has been linked to Nalinikant Singh, a resident of Gobindpur village panchayat, among other unidentified assailants.
The victim, who suffered grave injuries during the ordeal, is currently receiving medical care at a nearby hospital. In the wake of the attack, community members managed to apprehend Singh and handed him over to the authorities at Churaibari police station. Despite this swift action, the arrest of his accomplices remains pending, leading to a climate of fear among the village’s female population.
In response to the growing unease, the women of Gobindpur sought an audience with Bhanupada Chakraborty, the North District Superintendent of Police. Their demands were clear: to guarantee their safety and to ensure that Singh, along with his cohorts, face the full extent of the law.
A formal memorandum was also presented to the Superintendent, urging the immediate arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved in the attack. Superintendent Chakraborty has pledged to take the matter under serious consideration. Further investigation into the incident has uncovered that the assault was indeed orchestrated with malicious intent.
Superintendent Chakraborty has conveyed to the local women that the perpetrators will face severe consequences should they choose to testify in court. The community now awaits justice, with the expectation that Singh will be duly punished and the remaining suspects will be brought to book.
