Agartala, 28th August 2026: Relatives of a 26-year-old woman have alleged medical negligence at the GBP Hospital following her death after childbirth. The deceased has been identified as Priti Sarkar, wife of Jaydeb Sarkar, a resident of Bijoynagar under Sidhai Mohanpur.
According to her relatives, Priti was brought to the hospital for delivery in an apparently stable condition. They claimed she was active before admission and had even walked around the hospital premises and gone out to purchase clothes.
The family said doctors later advised a Caesarean section, reportedly citing concerns that the baby was underweight and that an emergency C-section was required. The surgery was conducted at around 9–10 am, following which the newborn was reportedly found to be healthy.
However, the relatives alleged that Priti was shifted to the ICU soon after the operation after doctors informed them that her condition had become critical and that she urgently required blood.
The family claimed that five units of blood were donated by her relatives, but they were allegedly not allowed to meet or see the patient. They further alleged that they were informed around 10:30 am that Priti had died, while claiming that she had actually passed away during the night.
The family has alleged that Priti had no known health complications and was carrying out household chores normally on the morning before being taken to the hospital. They have accused the hospital authorities of medical negligence and demanded an explanation regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.
