Agartala, 3rd March 2025:   A young woman has lodged a police complaint against Joydeep Debnath, son of ruling party Mahila Morcha leader Usha Debnath, at the West Agartala Women’s Police Station on today.

The case has sparked widespread outrage in the area, given the political background of the accused’s family.

According to sources, Joydeep Debnath, a resident of Aralia Dattapara under Agartala East police station, was in a relationship with a young woman from Lankamura under Airport police station. Over time, the relationship deepened, and the woman alleges that Joydeep lured her into a physical relationship under the pretext of marriage. Additionally, it has been alleged that Joydeep extorted a significant amount of money from her.

However, when the woman later insisted on marriage, Joydeep refused. Facing rejection, she approached Joydeep’s family, seeking recognition as his wife, but was allegedly turned away by both him and his parents. His father, Jagadish Debnath, is a state leader of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), further intensifying the political implications of the case.

Left with no alternative, the woman filed a formal complaint at the police station, seeking justice. The police have assured her that strict action will be taken based on her allegations.

The incident has triggered a storm of criticism in the locality, with residents condemning the alleged exploitation and betrayal. Many are demanding swift and impartial action against Joydeep Debnath, irrespective of his family’s political influence.
