Woman found dead at Dhawleswar on Nabami’s morning; Family alleges murder

Agartala, 3rd October 2025 : A shocking incident took place on the morning of Maha Nabami, the body of a 39-year-old woman Sujata Karmakar was recovered from a residence on Dhaleswar Road No. 17 here. Sujata was married to Himadri Shekhar Roy and reports indicate that this was the second marriage for both individuals.

According to Sujata’s family, tensions began just two days after the wedding when they allegedly found that Himadri was impotent. The family claims this revelation led to persistent marital discord, culminating in Sujata’s death. They have accused Himadri and his mother of murdering Sujata and attempting to stage the incident as a suicide.

The family further alleges that during the marriage, they provided Rs 5 lakh in cash, a substantial quantity of gold jewelry and household items. They claim that all valuables are now in Himadri’s possession.

In response to the incident, leaders from a left-wing women’s organization submitted a deputation at the East Agartala Women’s Police Station demanding a thorough investigation. They expressed concern over the rising cases of violence against women in the state and criticized the deteriorating law and order situation. The group called for swift action and exemplary punishment for the accused.

Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and have launched an investigation into the matter.
