Agartala, 14th April 2026: A mysterious death at Dharmanagar District Hospital has sparked shock and questions among locals. On Tuesday morning, April 14, the body of a tribal woman was recovered from the base of the hospital building, raising suspicions about how a patient could vanish from her ward and later be found dead on hospital premises.
The deceased has been identified as Basanti Reang, a resident of Monachhara village under Khedarchhara area in Panisagar constituency. Her husband’s name is Bonomali Reang. According to family members, Basanti was admitted to the hospital on April 12 with gynecological complications and had been undergoing treatment.
Relatives allege that on the night of April 13, around 10 p.m., she suddenly went missing from her hospital bed. Despite frantic searches, her whereabouts remained unknown. The following morning, her body was discovered at the foot of the hospital building.
Dharmanagar Women’s Police Station staff arrived promptly, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Officials stated that the exact cause of death will be determined once the autopsy report is available, after which the body will be handed over to the family.
The incident has triggered widespread concern in the hospital compound. How a patient could disappear from a district hospital—where claims of advanced facilities are often made—and later be found dead remains a pressing question. Police have described the case as “shrouded in mystery” and said the truth will only emerge after a thorough investigation.
