Agartala, 13th September 2026 : A woman’s gold chain was allegedly snatched by two youths while she was out for a morning walk in the Jogendranagar area, police said. In connection with the incident, East Agartala police have arrested one person along with the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.
According to the Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station, the victim, identified as Geeta Rani Das, had gone out for a morning walk with another woman. During the walk, two youths allegedly approached her and snatched the gold chain from her neck before fleeing the spot.
Following the incident, police launched an investigation and traced the motorcycle allegedly used in the chain-snatching. The bike and its rider were subsequently intercepted in the Radhanagar area, and the rider was arrested. However, the stolen gold chain has not yet been recovered, police said.
The police officer further stated that the second accused is believed to be residing in another district. A police team conducted a search operation at his residence, but he was not found. His mobile phone has also reportedly been switched off. Police said efforts are underway to locate and arrest him soon. The arrested accused was produced before a court on Sunday, with East Agartala police seeking seven days of police remand for further investigation into the case.
