Modern border fencing pilot project underway in Tripura, says CM

Date:

Agartala, 13th September 2026 :  Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday said a pilot project for modernising border fencing is underway in Sepahijala district and proposed setting up a coordination committee involving the BSF and state government officials to improve information-sharing on border-related issues.

Saha made the remarks after attending a blood donation camp at the BSF Headquarters in Agartala.

The Chief Minister said the proposed coordination mechanism would help the state government better understand the challenges faced by people living along the international border and enable authorities to respond more effectively.

“Already, a pilot study on modern fencing is being carried out in Sepahijala district. There are several issues concerning border areas and the people living there. Some information is known to the BSF but may not reach the state government,” Saha said.

Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh. The Chief Minister said a coordination committee could facilitate the flow of information from the district level to the state level, allowing officials to jointly examine issues concerning border management.

He also said the state police would be involved in the proposed mechanism to ensure better coordination and monitoring of developments in border areas.Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, said strengthening border security remains a priority for the state government.

“We are working to strengthen the border. At present, there are three layers of security involving the BSF, Tripura State Riffles.
