Agartala, 13th September 2026 : Tension prevailed at Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital on Sunday morning following the deaths of two tribal youths in a road accident, with family members and local residents initially opposing the post-mortem until the exact circumstances behind the accident were clarified.
The deceased have been identified as Sanjay Debbarma and Bishu Kumar Debbarma, who died in a motorcycle accident on Saturday evening at Jaruilongbari, near the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office along the Assam-Agartala National Highway under Teliamura police station.
Following the accident, questions were raised over how and under what circumstances the motorcycle met with the accident. On Sunday morning, family members, relatives and some local residents gathered near the hospital morgue and demanded that the post-mortem be withheld until the actual cause of the accident was established.
Confusion among those gathered at the hospital was further heightened by an interview given by the Teliamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer to a section of the media. Some people initially believed that the officer’s statement related to Saturday’s accident.
The matter was later clarified, with police stating that the interview concerned a separate accident that had occurred in the same area earlier. The proposed installation of a traffic naka point in the area was also linked to that earlier incident and not Saturday’s accident.
Although the confusion was resolved, the families continued to oppose the post-mortem, insisting that the circumstances surrounding Saturday’s accident be investigated first. They sought clarity on how the motorcycle crashed and whether negligence or any other factor was involved.
The situation became tense at around 10 am as police remained deployed at the hospital while efforts were made to persuade the family members to allow the post-mortem.
At around 2 pm, the concerned police officer and MDC Jiten Debbarma reached the hospital
