Agartala, 13th September 2026 : Tripura Chief Minister Professor Dr Manik Saha on Sunday said the state government is planning to introduce bone marrow transplantation and eye transplantation facilities in Tripura as part of its efforts to further strengthen healthcare services.
Saha was speaking after inaugurating a voluntary blood donation camp organised on the occasion of the 74th foundation day of Unnayan Sangha Club at Uttar Badarghat.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the state’s club culture has undergone a significant transformation, with around 90 per cent of the clubs having moved away from an environment of fear, intimidation and unhealthy practices.
He said the change is visible not only in Agartala but across Tripura, adding that developments in governance gradually extend to different levels of society, with the transformation of local clubs being one example.
The Chief Minister stressed that the government does not want the democratic rights of citizens to be curtailed under any circumstances. He also highlighted the role of parents and community institutions in shaping the behaviour and activities of young people.
Saha said development should not be limited to infrastructure and that equal importance must be given to human and social development.
Recalling the past, he said disputes between clubs over boundaries sometimes escalated into violence, with weapons and physical clashes creating fear among local residents. He claimed that the state’s club culture has now largely moved away from such practices.
The Chief Minister urged clubs to maintain a neutral role when issues such as domestic violence or disputes over local boundaries come to their notice.
Speaking about blood donation, Saha said there was a time when people had to arrange blood for money outside hospitals, whereas people are now coming forward voluntarily to donate blood.
He congratulated blood donors and appealed to people to give equal importance to eye donation and body donation.
Highlighting the government’s future healthcare plans, Saha said the government intends to introduce bone marrow transplantation and eye transplantation facilities in the state.
He said that in the past, many people had to sell their assets and travel outside Tripura for advanced medical treatment. According to the Chief Minister, improvements in healthcare infrastructure and services in the state have resulted in an 80 per cent reduction in referrals of patients outside Tripura.
He claimed that many advanced healthcare facilities are now available within the state.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, local corporator Shampa Sarkar Chowdhury, AMC South Zone Chairman Abhijit Mallik, corporator Alok Roy, Unnayan Sangha Club president Jayanta Prasad Saha and club secretary Partha Sarkar were among those present at the programme.
The Chief Minister later visited the blood donation camp and interacted with donors, encouraging them for their voluntary service. Sanitation workers were also felicitated during the programme.
