Women Unsafe in Bengal, BJP to Lead Fight for Justice: Biplab Deb

Agartala, 30th June 2025:   Former Tripura Chief Minister and West Tripura MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, accusing it of failing to ensure women’s safety in the state.

Deb’s remarks came shortly after he landed in Kolkata as part of a four-member BJP fact-finding committee constituted to probe the recent gang-rape incident at Kolkata’s Law College. The committee, formed under the directive of BJP national president J.P. Nadda, includes former Union Ministers Satyapal Singh and Meenakshi Lekhi, and Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra.

Speaking to the media at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, Deb expressed grave concern over the deteriorating safety of women in West Bengal.

“In a state where nearly half the population is women, even law students—future protectors of justice—are not safe. It’s appalling that such a heinous crime took place at a law college. What’s more shocking is that the Chief Minister herself is a woman, yet these incidents continue unabated. I strongly condemn it,” Deb said.

He further stated that the committee would visit the crime scene, interact with the victim and her family, and prepare a detailed report to be submitted to the party’s top leadership.Highlighting alleged political links of the accused, Deb said, “The main accused has a track record going back to 2013, and his photographs with Trinamool Congress leaders are out in the public. This isn’t an isolated case — such criminals are being protected. Their profession seems to be crime, and the ruling party is shielding them.”

He assured that the BJP will not remain silent. “Our report will go directly to BJP national president J.P. Nadda. We will continue to fight for the safety and dignity of women in West Bengal,” Deb added.
