Agartala, 13th March 2024:   In a determined plea for basic amenities, the residents of Joymanipara in the Laljuri block of the Pabiacherra assembly constituency took to the streets today, causing a significant disruption. The community, led by women’s group, orchestrated a roadblock on the vital artery connecting Machmara to Kanchanpur. This bold move came as a result of the authorities’ prolonged inaction over the area’s chronic drinking water crisis.

The blockade brought traffic to a grinding halt, underscoring the severity of the issue that has plagued the community for an extended period. Despite repeated appeals to the high-ranking officials, the residents’ pleas for a sustainable solution to their water woes had fallen on deaf ears, prompting today’s drastic action.

The situation escalated until senior officers from the procession were dispatched to the scene, prompted by the news of the blockade. After intense discussions with the protesters, the officials provided assurances that measures would be taken to address the drinking water scarcity. Trusting in the promises made, the residents of Joymanipara withdrew their blockade, allowing traffic to resume and bringing a temporary end to the standoff.

The community now waits with bated breath, hoping that the resolution of this fundamental issue is at hand. The officials’ commitment to solving the drinking water problem has been put to the test, and the residents have made it clear that they will settle for nothing less than a permanent solution.
