Agartala, 20th August 2025: Four major railway stations of Tripura—Agartala, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat and Udaipur—have been included under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Station Project, former Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb announced today.
Deb said Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the inclusion of these stations in response to a query raised in Parliament. He further informed that while modernization work has already begun at two of the stations, projects at the remaining two are set to begin shortly.
Highlighting the Centre’s thrust on railway expansion, Deb remarked that modernization of stations, improved passenger services and greater travel comfort remain key priorities of the Modi government. He also noted that the pace of railway development under the present dispensation is nearly 6.5 times faster compared to the UPA era.
Work is progressing at different levels across the four stations. At Agartala, lift installation has been completed, while construction of a 12-metre foot overbridge and a new station building is underway. Dharmanagar station has seen the completion of platform shelters, approach roads and boundary walls, with work continuing on a circulating area, another 12-metre foot overbridge and an escalator. Kumarghat station is being upgraded with a new footbridge, circulating area, approach road, waiting hall and platform shelters. Meanwhile, at Udaipur, efforts are focused on building a 12-metre footbridge and enhancing the waiting hall and toilet facilities.
Deb asserted that these projects would not only modernize the stations but also provide a significant boost to passenger amenities, making railway journeys across Tripura more comfortable and convenient.
