Worker electrocuted while cutting bamboo at Fakiradola Nama Para

Agartala, 16th November 2024 :   A tragic incident took place on Saturday morning in the Fakiradola Nama Para area under Sonamura Police Station, where a worker named Babul Nama (55) was electrocuted by a 63,000-volt power line while cutting bamboo. The incident took place at around 11:30 AM, leading to immediate action from local authorities.

Babul Nama, hails from a very poor family, earned his living as a bamboo picker. On the fateful morning, while cutting bamboo from a bush near his house, the bamboo accidentally touched a high-voltage power line, resulting in his instant death. Eyewitnesses reported that the moment he came into contact with the power line, he was electrocuted and died on the spot.

Upon receiving the news, police and fire department personnel rushed to the scene. The Upa-Pradhan of Fakira Dola Gram Panchayat and other public representatives also arrived to assess the situation. The electricity connection in the area was promptly disconnected to ensure safety.

The body of Babul Nama was in a burning condition, was carefully taken down from the tree and shifted to the hospital for an autopsy. After the autopsy, the body will be handed over to his family. The incident has cast a pall of sorrow over the community, highlighting the dangers faced by workers in such hazardous conditions.
