Agartala, 14th June 2025: The Kailashahar Blood Donors Association marked World Blood Donor Day 2025 with a series of events aimed at promoting voluntary blood donation and raising awareness on related social issues. The day-long program took place at Hall No. 2 of Unakoti Kalakshetra, included seminars, award ceremonies and a blood donation camp.
The event commenced with a floral tribute to Karl Landsteiner, the discoverer of blood groups followed by a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the recent Ahmedabad plane crash. The program was officially inaugurated by artists from Nirghosh Nikwan.
The program was attended by Kailashahar Municipal Council Chairperson Chapala Debroy, Unakoti District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar, SDM Pradip Sarkar and District Education Officer Prashanta Kilikdar among others. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shankhashubhra Debnath emphasized the critical role of blood donation in saving lives, while Dr. Ayan Roy led a seminar discussing pressing issues like child marriage and teenage pregnancy. A quiz competition was also organized for students to encourage engagement with these topics.
In a bid to honor commitment to blood donation, five women Shaswati Chakraborty, Paushali Bhattacharya, Mahamaya Das, Sanghamitra Dey and Suparna Chakraborty were felicitated for their unwavering dedication to the cause. Additionally, thirteen clubs received recognition for their contributions to blood donation drives.
The event’s success was cemented with the voluntary participation of 22 blood donors highlighting the importance of such initiatives. The program was skillfully conducted by orator Sukanta Chakraborty, with special support from the School Education Department and the Information and Culture Department of Unakoti.
