Agartala, 18th December 2025:   Melaghar police conducted an anti-narcotics operation on the basis of a tip-off at the residence of Shankar Nama, located near Lal Miah Chowmuhani Water Supply in Melaghar. During the raid, officers recovered 1,785 yaba tablets and nearly one kilogram of dried cannabis from an unused suitcase kept on the house veranda.

The operation was led by Officer-in-Charge Jayanta Das, accompanied by SI Ram, SI Asit Bhattacharya, DCM Animesh Debnath, and other police officials.

However, the family strongly denied ownership of the seized contraband. Shankar Namo’s wife alleged that they were being framed due to longstanding disputes with neighbors. She stated that her husband is a farmer who takes up various forms of work but is not involved in any business or illegal trade.

Police, failing to locate Shankar Nama during the raid, brought his wife to the station for questioning. An NDPS case has been registered in connection with the incident.
