Agartala, 21st June 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today urged citizens to incorporate yoga into their daily lives, highlighting its role in fostering self-awareness, relieving stress, and promoting both mental and physical well-being.
Speaking at the state-level celebration of the 11th International Yoga Day at the International Fair Ground in Hapania, Agartala, Dr. Saha noted that the event was being observed with great enthusiasm across the state.
“Yoga helps individuals understand themselves. Knowing oneself is a significant task, and yoga enables that. It also helps reduce stress and cultivates a healthy mind and body, which are essential for a healthy life,” the Chief Minister said.
He recalled that last year’s International Yoga Day was also held at the same venue and emphasized the global importance of the day. “In September 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed at the United Nations that June 21 be observed as International Yoga Day. The proposal was supported by 177 countries, and since 2015, this day has been celebrated across the globe,” Dr. Saha said.
He pointed out that yoga, rooted in India’s ancient tradition, is now practiced widely around the world. “Today, there are over 1.33 lakh yoga centres in countries like the USA and China. This shows the growing international recognition of yoga’s benefits.”
Dr. Saha expressed concern over declining interest in yoga, particularly among youth increasingly absorbed in the digital world. “Young people must return to yoga. Daily practice is crucial to lead a stress-free life,” he said.
As Tripura’s Health Minister, Dr. Saha also voiced concern over the rise in HIV/AIDS cases in the state and underscored the need for mass awareness campaigns.“HIV compromises the immune system and can have serious consequences if not treated. While awareness and medical care are essential, yoga also supports mental clarity and strengthens overall well-being,” he added.
The event was attended by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Pal, MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, Secretary P.K. Chakraborty, DGP Anurag, Director of Sports S.B. Nath, and Padma Shri awardee gymnast Dipa Karmakar.
