Agartala, 5th March 2025: Sonamura Nagar Panchayat felicitated two young artists from the town for their achievements in national-level painting competitions. The event took place today at the Nagar Panchayat office in the presence of Chairperson Sarada Chakraborty, Vice-Chairperson Shahjahan Mia, Executive Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sonamura Mahendra Kambe Chakma and Deputy Executive Officer Prabir Saha.
The 14-year old Devkanya Datta and Debankita Datta, both eighth-grade students were recognized for their accomplishments. Devkanya, a resident of Hospital Road secured seventh place in a painting competition organized by the Ministry of Power in Delhi. Debankita, from Tamsabari achieved fourth place in a competition held at Manikarnika Art Gallery in Uttar Pradesh.
During the event, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate highlighted that Sepahijala district has a high rate of child marriage compared to the national average. He emphasized that these two young artists set an example by proving that girls can achieve success on their own. Chairperson Sarada Chakraborty also addressed the gathering and praised the young artists for their achievements.
