Agartala, 10th September 2026 : The Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress organised a six-hour mass sit-in protest in front of the Dharmanagar Congress Bhavan, protesting what it termed the BJP government’s “anti-people” policies, alleged irregularities in recruitment, and the decision to relax norms related to the Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC).
Addressing the protest, Youth Congress leaders alleged that changes to the PRTC system could enable job seekers from outside Tripura to compete for employment opportunities in the state, potentially affecting the prospects of local youths. They also questioned whether forged PRTCs or fake five-year school certificates were being arranged through tout networks, allegedly for amounts ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh.
The protesters also raised the issue of candidates who qualified in TET-1 and TET-2 but, according to them, have been awaiting appointment letters for nearly two years. Leaders alleged that unemployed youths seeking appointments by approaching the Chief Minister’s residence or the Education Department have instead faced arrests and harassment.
The Youth Congress further alleged that attempts were made to suppress the contents of the late DGP’s reported suicide note, a claim that remains politically contested.
The organisation said the state-wide protest programme comprises a total of 54 hours of mass sit-ins, with demonstrations being held phase-wise across different districts.
Pradesh Youth Congress President Nilkamal Saha, District Youth Congress President Jaydeep Nath, Pradesh Congress member Kebal Kanti Nandi and youth leader Chayan Bhattacharya were among those present, along with other party leaders and activists.
