Youth duped of Rs 5.9 lakh in fake FCI job scam, accused arrested

Date:

Agartala, 23rd  May 2026: A major job fraud racket has once again come to light in Tripura, with a young unemployed man from Nalchar allegedly being duped of Rs 5.90 lakh on the false promise of securing a government job in the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

Reportedly, the victim, Biswanath Bhowmik, came across a recruitment advertisement on social media in January this year claiming vacancies in the Ministry of Food Corporation of India. The post urged interested candidates to contact a mobile number mentioned in the advertisement.

Acting on the offer, Biswanath contacted the alleged fraudster, identified as Tanchajur Ali of Cooch Behar. After collecting several personal and educational documents from the victim, the accused allegedly took Rs 4.50 lakh from him in phases, assuring him of a confirmed job appointment.

The accused later handed over what was allegedly a fake appointment letter and informed Biswanath that due to the election process, his joining would be delayed. After the elections, when the victim again contacted the accused, he was allegedly told that a departmental official named Dilip Saha was unavailable. He was then directed to report to an address in Siliguri for joining formalities.

Before that, the accused allegedly extracted another Rs 1.40 lakh from the victim. However, growing suspicious over the repeated delays and unusual instructions, Biswanath directly contacted the concerned department and discovered that the entire recruitment process was fraudulent.

Following the revelation, Biswanath lodged a General Diary (GD) at Melaghar Police Station, which was later transferred to NCC Police Station for investigation.

Based on the complaint, police on Friday arrested the accused, Tanchajur Ali, from Batertala. On Saturday, NCC Police produced him before the court and sought police remand for further interrogation.

Speaking to media persons, the victim demanded strict punishment for the accused and appealed for the recovery and return of his hard-earned money.
