Agartala, 23rd May 2026: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled Biswajit Debnath, former chief and current member of Sonaimuri Gram Panchayat, on charges of violating party discipline and engaging in anti-party activities. The announcement was made on Friday from the Sonaimuri Shakti Kendra office under Pabiachhara Assembly Constituency by BJP’s Pabiachhara Mandal General Secretary, Animesh Sinha.
It may be noted that www.tripurachronicle.in had run down number of stories regrading the violation done by Biswajit Debnath, former chief and current member of Sonaimuri Gram Panchayat.
Reports indicate that a few days earlier, Biswajit Debnath had led seven members of the Panchayat in submitting a no-confidence motion against the sitting chief and deputy chief of Sonaimuri Gram Panchayat. Following this move, the BJP leadership took disciplinary action, resulting in his expulsion from the party.
This development has stirred political attention in the region, as internal disputes within the Panchayat have now escalated into formal disciplinary measures by the ruling party.
