Agartala, 11th May 2025: Churaibari police have arrested a youth in connection with an objectionable post shared on social media about the Indian Army and Border Security Force (BSF), amid the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. The arrested individual has been identified as Abdul Salam also known as Kutu Mia, son of Rule Amin, a resident of East Fulbari 3 Ward under Churaibari Police Station.
According to police sources, Abdul Salam allegedly posted content on Facebook that was deemed inappropriate regarding the Indian Army and BSF. Concerned citizens from Churaibari approached the local police station and demanded action against him. “We strongly protested against this incident and urged the authorities to take necessary legal action,” said a local resident.
Following this, a written complaint was lodged by Dibakar Dhar, a resident of Churaibari leading to police intervention. Churaibari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khokon Saha confirmed the arrest. “After receiving the complaint, we registered a case under Sections 196, 352, and 353 of the Indian Penal Code. The case number is 15/25,” said OC Saha.
Today, police arrested Abdul Salam from his residence and presented him before the district court. Law enforcement officials have urged residents to exercise caution when sharing content on social media. “People should refrain from sharing or endorsing anti-national or anti-military sentiments online. Violators will face legal consequences,” warned the police administration.
The incident has sparked tension across the area, with mixed reactions emerging from different communities. “This has caused quite an uproar among the locals. Many are condemning the act, while others are worried about the implications of social media restrictions,” commented a local intellectual.
