Agartala, 2nd April 2026: A joint team of the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested a 22-year-old youth with a consignment of narcotics at Agartala Railway Station yesterday evening. The operation took place around 07 PM and was part of an intensified routine security sweep aimed at curbing the transport of illegal substances via express trains.

The suspect identified as Bhagaru Kumar is a resident of Barhampur, Sayesthapur, under the Raghupur Police Station in Bihar. He was intercepted at the station’s parking area, situated between the RPF Post and the “pay & use” facility, after officers noticed his suspicious behavior. Upon conducting a thorough search of his “pitthu” bag, security personnel recovered 48 bottles of Eskuf, a banned codeine-based cough syrup frequently used as an intoxicant.

Agartala GRP’s OC said that the seized contraband has an estimated black market value of approximately Rs 50,000. During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted to transporting the consignment from Patna, Bihar, with the intent of local distribution within Tripura. A specific case number 2026GRP021 has been registered under sections 21(C) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985. While the suspect remains in custody, authorities are currently conducting a broader investigation to identify the local recipients and dismantle the network responsible for this trafficking ring.
