Agartala, 6th September 2026 : A youth was seriously injured after being hit by a 14-wheeler truck in the Motorstand area of the capital city on Sunday afternoon.
The injured youth has been identified as Pranesh Das, son of Parimal Chandra Das, a resident of Daspara area.
According to reports, Pranesh was passing through the Motorstand area when the heavy truck hit him. He sustained a serious injury to his leg. Traffic police personnel present at the spot immediately detained the truck and its driver.
The injured youth was initially rescued and taken to IGM Hospital. However, considering the seriousness of his condition, he was referred to GB Pant Hospital. Two traffic constables reportedly accompanied him in an ambulance and brought him to the hospital for further treatment.
A traffic constable who witnessed the incident said that Pranesh had suffered a severe injury to his leg and that his condition appeared serious.
Meanwhile, the incident has raised questions over the entry and movement of heavy goods vehicles through busy areas of Agartala during daytime hours. Questions are also being raised over traffic management in the city, particularly regarding the deployment of traffic personnel at major congestion points.
With several roads in the city already in poor condition, traffic congestion has become a major concern for commuters. The movement of heavy vehicles through busy roads has further aggravated the situation, residents alleged.
Critics have also questioned whether adequate traffic personnel are being deployed at strategic locations and whether traffic regulations regarding heavy vehicles are being properly enforced. Residents have called for stricter monitoring, better traffic management and effective regulation of heavy vehicles in the city to prevent such incidents and reduce congestion.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and traffic management in Agartala.
