YTF Threatens Statewide Agitation against DM, locks offices in Gomati

Agartala, 2nd June 2025:  The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF), the youth wing of the Tipra Motha Party, on Monday issued a strong ultimatum to the Tripura government, threatening a statewide protest — including road blockades and office shutdowns — if immediate action is not taken against Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma.

The protest was sparked after the DM allegedly refused to meet Tipra Motha’s founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishor Manikya Debbarma during a visit to his official residence. In response, YTF members locked down the Gomati District Magistrate’s office earlier today.

“Right now, we are standing in front of the DM office in Gomati. We had warned earlier that if no action is taken, we would lock all government offices in the district. Today, we’ve locked two offices — and this is just the beginning,” said YTF president Suroj Debbarma while addressing the media. “If the government doesn’t act by this evening, the protest will escalate. It will impact South, Sepahijala, Gomati, North — the entire state. Offices will be shut down, roads will be blocked. The responsibility will lie with the state, not us.”

Debbarma further declared that the government has been given a 96-hour deadline to address the issue. “If a resolution cannot be found for one DM within four days, we will intensify our agitation. This is not a minor matter — it is serious and deeply offensive to our community,” he added. “We urge the Government of Tripura to treat this issue with the seriousness it deserves.”
