8,134 gms gold worth Rs 3.82 cr seized at airport

 In multiple seizures during the last

few days, Officials of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU)

have seized 8,134 gms of gold worth Rs 3.82 crore at the

Anna International airport here.

An official release here said in the first incident 1,166 gms

of gold ingot valued at Rs, 54.02 lakh were seized, while

4,158 gms of gold worth Rs.1.93 crore were seized in the

other incident.

In the other two incidents, 1,774 gms of gold valued at

Rs 86.27 lakh and 1,036 gms of gold worth Rs 47.99 lakh

were seized from the passengers who arrived from abroad.

Based on intelligence a male Indian passenger, who arrived

from Abu Dhabi was intercepted by the Air Custom Officers.

On examination of his person, two pouches of Gold in paste

form found concealed in his shoes was recovered, resulting

in recovery of 1,166 gms of 24 carat gold worth Rs.54.02 lakh.

They were seized under the Customs Act 1962.

The passenger was arrested

In another incident, based on intelligence, the Air Customs

officials intercepted two male passengers, Abdul Majeed

Ramees Raja and Shahul Hameed Sadam Hussain, who

arrived from Dubai.

On examination, two gold chains, 16 nos, of gold foils and

64 nos.of parts of 24K purity totally weighting 4,158 gms

and totally valued at Rs.1.93 crore was found concealed

in person and checked-in baggage were recovered and

they were seized under the Customs Act, 1962.

In another incident, based on intelligence, one male passenger,

who arrived from Dubai was intercepted by the AIU Officials.

On examination of his person, Gold in paste/compound form

was found concealed in his body. It resulted in recovery of

1,179 grams of gold ingot and three gold chains weighing

595 gms were concealed in his inner pant pocket which

was recovered and seized under Customs Act, 1962.

Totally 1,774 gms of gold worth Rs 86.27 lakh was seized.

In the other incident, the AIU officails intercepted two male

passengers, Ibrahimsha Yasar Arafath and Siddeek Batcha

Shahul Hameed Badhusha, who arrived from Dubai via

Colombo .

On examination, one gold ingot, two gold chains and 327

gold rings of 24k purity totally weighing 1,036 grams and

valued at Rs 47.99 lakh concealed on their person and

check-in baggage was recovered, and seized under the

Customs Act, 1962.

In all a total of 8,134 gms gold worth Rs 3.82 crore was,

seized at airport.

Further investigation is under progress in all the seizures.
