In a significant development, 86 members of the banned CPI (Maoist) party surrendered before S Chandrasekhar Reddy, IGP, Multi-Zone-I, in Bhadradri Kothagudem district on Saturday.
Addressing the media, IGP Chandrasekhar Reddy stated that the surrendered individuals belonged to various Maoist formations: Area Committee Members (ACMs) – 4, Party Members – 5, RPC Committee – 8, RPC Militia – 27, RPC DAKMS/KMS – 20, RPC CNM – 13, and RPC GRD – 9.
These individuals decided to renounce the path of violence and return to the mainstream after being inspired by the Telangana Police Department’s “Operation Cheyutha” — a programme designed to promote the welfare of surrendered Maoists and the development of tribal (Adivasi) communities.
So far in 2025, a total of 224 Maoist cadres from various categories have surrendered across the two affected districts. This includes DVCMs – 2, ACMs/PPCMs – 10, Party Members – 25, Militia Members – 74, RPC Members – 23, DKMS/KMS Members – 41, CNM Members – 31, one Courier, and GRD – 17. The police attribute this success to the rehabilitation and livelihood schemes implemented under the state government’s surrender policy.
The IGP noted that many former cadres were disillusioned by the outdated ideology and violent tactics of the CPI (Maoist), which has lost the support of tribal communities.
He highlighted recent incidents in which Maoist actions led to the injury and death of tribal women in Rampur and Sodipara villages, further alienating them from local populations. The Maoists have been accused of obstructing development in agency areas and intimidating locals.
The Telangana Police Department has urged all remaining Maoist cadres willing to surrender and reintegrate into society to contact their nearest police station or district-level officers, either directly or through family members.
Authorities assured that full support for rehabilitation, including financial aid and livelihood opportunities, would be provided—especially for top cadres of Telangana origin, who would receive additional benefits for better societal reintegration.
