Artificial intelligence should reduce diagnosis and treatment costs, says Guv Ramesh Bais

Artificial intelligence technology is revolutionizing diagnosis and treatment. In particular, various types of cancer, heart disease, skin disease, and dentistry are undergoing transformational changes due to artificial intelligence.

However, this technology should reduce the cost of diagnosis and treatment for the common people, asserted Maharashtra State Governor Ramesh Bais here on Sunday.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of a one-day seminar on ‘Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare and Medical Education’, organized by the National Institute of Medical Sciences and Bombay Hospital, which was inaugurated on Sunday at Bombay Hospital Mumbai in his presence.

Vaccination, deafness, medical imaging, antibiotics, organ transplantation, stem cell therapy, etc. have seen significant advances in the last two centuries. Stating that artificial intelligence is a revolutionary technology that will also change the entire landscape in the medical field, research should be done on how artificial intelligence can reduce the burden of diabetes and other lifestyle-related problems.

He further said that doctors and specialists should not let the harmony and empathy with patients decrease while adopting modern technology and should be especially diligent in serving the poor patients.

He expressed the expectation that artificial intelligence technology should be used responsibly and appropriate confidentiality should be maintained regarding the patient’s illness.

On this occasion, former Fellows of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, the late Dr. B. K. Goyal and Dr. L. H. Hiranandani, were posthumously honored by the Governor. Former President of the Academy, Dr. Keval Talwar, among others, was also honored.

President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences Dr. Shiv Kumar Sarin, Designated President Dr. Digambar Behera, as well as doctors and experts in the medical field, were present.
