BJP urges Guv to intervene into CT Ravi case

Date:

The BJP has urged Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot to intervene in the arrest of BJP MLC CT Ravi, alleging political vendetta by the ruling Congress government.

The BJP has also demanded a fact-finding inquiry led by a former judge to investigate the circumstances of Ravi’s arrest.

Leader of Opposition R Ashoka, in a letter to the Governor, described the arrest as a “blatant misuse of state machinery,” asserting that it undermines democratic principles.

Ashoka highlighted the constitutional role of the Governor in upholding the rule of law and maintaining democratic integrity, particularly during political crises.

“The manner of CT Ravi’s arrest deviates from legal norms and appears to be driven by political motivations to suppress dissent,” the letter stated. The BJP leader further urged the Governor to ensure a fair inquiry to restore public confidence in the state’s democratic framework.

Ashoka called for an independent probe to determine whether the arrest was legally justified or politically influenced. He argued that such an investigation is vital to reassure citizens about Karnataka’s adherence to constitutional values.

BJP MLA Mahesh Tenginkai raised questions about procedural lapses, claiming there was no substantial evidence justifying the arrest. “The Chairman said there are no audio or video recordings. This seems like an attempt to target CT Ravi,” Tenginkai remarked.

State Home Minister G Parameshwara announced a CID investigation into the incident and urged patience, asserting that the inquiry should proceed without external interference. The complaint against Ravi, filed by Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, alleged derogatory remarks made by him in the Legislative Council.

CT Ravi criticised the government’s actions, questioning his repeated relocation to four districts under the guise of security concerns. “I still face a life threat and demand judicial protection,” he said, alleging a conspiracy involving Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and Minister Hebbalkar.

The Karnataka High Court has issued an interim order for Ravi’s release, which has been welcomed by BJP workers.

The BJP has called the Governor’s intervention crucial to safeguarding democracy and preventing Karnataka from descending into a state of political turmoil. The party insists that the arrest sets a dangerous precedent and undermines public trust in the government.
