BRS observes “Deeksha Divas”

Date:

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) observed Deeksha Divas across Telangana on Friday, commemorating the historic hunger strike of its President and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) in 2009.

The fast played a crucial role in the formation of the Telangana state.

At a gathering in Alugunur, Karimnagar district, BRS Working President K T Rama Rao (KTR) addressed the audience, reflecting on Karimnagar’s pivotal role in the Telangana movement.

“Karimnagar introduced KCR to the nation through the Simhagarjana meeting. The region exemplified the strength of Telangana’s ideology by electing leaders with record majorities,” KTR said, lauding the people’s unwavering support.

KTR recounted KCR’s journey, starting from the launch of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in 2001, his resignation from political posts, and the challenges he faced.

“KCR sacrificed his position and risked his life to lead the movement. He was arrested during his fast-unto-death in 2009, but his resolve ignited the fire of the movement across Telangana,” he stated.

He highlighted the sacrifices made during the movement, noting that students and activists laid down their lives in the struggle for statehood. “KCR’s leadership, the sacrifices of martyrs, and the people.

Taking a swipe at the Congress, KTR accused the party of historical injustices, from forcibly merging Telangana with Andhra Pradesh in 1956 to failing to respect the aspirations of the people during the movement. He called for continued vigilance against Congress, claiming they have again deceived the public with false promises and guarantees.

KTR urged BRS leaders and supporters to draw inspiration from KCR’s leadership and renew their commitment to fighting for the welfare of Telangana. “We must hold the Congress accountable for their promises and ensure the development and dignity of our state,” he added.
