The CID has detained two officials of the Agriculture Department from Mysuru district over the alleged fake letter written to Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot alleging corruption against Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy.
Assistant Agriculture Director Gurudatt and Agriculture Officer Shivaprasad, are being interrogated by the police.
The detainees were allegedly involved in writing a letter in the name of seven agriculture officials from Mandya, alleging that Chaluvarayaswamy through joint director had demanded graft for postings.
In a followup action, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered a CID probe into the fakery after the Opposition questioned the state government.
During the investigation, the CID ascertained that the letter was sent through Saraswathipuram Post Office in Mysuru. After an enquiry, two officials were detained.
However, the dilemma still persists over their role in sending letters to the Governor. The police are making efforts to find out who wrote the letter to the Governor.
Minister Chaluvarayaswamy had alleged that the letter was fake.
Interestingly, the Mandya Joint Director had revealed to the police that there were only four officers in the office, but the letter to the Governor had seven signatures.
