Eight tourists injured in terror attack near Pahalgam

Date:

At least eight tourists were injured in a suspected terror attack near the famous tourist destination of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

According to initial reports, the attack took place in the Baisaran meadow area, a scenic but non-motorable spot located near Pahalgam.

“Terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists. While over half a dozen have been injured, we fear there may be some casualties,” a senior official said.

Another official said the eight injured were brought to a medical facility in Pahalgam and out of them two were shifted to the Srinagar hospital in critical condition.

A police officer said gunshots were heard in the area.

“The site of the incident is not accessible by vehicles. Security forces have been rushed to the spot on foot,” he added.

The attack on the tourists has been widely condemned.
