Mamata advises people not to panic over Covid-19

Date:

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said there was no immediate concern about Covid-19 and advised people not to panic.

She said if anyone has any problem, like a cold, fever, or cough, then they should visit the government hospitals to clear their doubts.

Addressing the media at Nabanna, the state secretariat, the Chief Minister said they had a meeting with the health officials to assess the situation arising out of reports of the return of Covid-19 elsewhere in the country. She said there was no need to panic.

“We had a meeting to take stock of the situation in the government health sector, given reports of Covid-19 elsewhere, and we came to the conclusion that there is no need to panic on the issue,” Banerjee told reporters.

She said if anyone has any doubt, he or she could visit government hospitals to avoid unnecessary expenditure, as the hospitals have all the necessary infrastructure to provide adequate services.

She said India reported only 4 to 5 thousand cases so far in a country with 140 crore people, and the WHO declared it endemic and not a pandemic.

A separate report on Monday said the total number of active Covid cases in India touched 6,491 as 358 fresh cases of the virus were reported in the last 24 hours in the country, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

No new Covid-related deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, the Ministry stated.

Kerala continues to be the most affected state with active cases tally reaching 1,957 early Monday.
