President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday said the more the youth move towards the light of education the more the country will progress.
She was addressing the 20th convocation of Kashmir University after arriving on her maiden visit to the Valley after she became the country’s President.
Murmu started her convocation speech with the phrase “Yee mouj Kasheer” (O Mother Kashmir!), drawing applause from the gathering.
“The more our youth move towards the light of education, towards the light of peace, the more our country will progress. The society and country whose youth follow the path of development and discipline moves forward on the path of progress and prosperity,” she said in her address.
The President said that nature has given Kashmir unmatched beauty and it is rightly said in Persian poetry that if there is paradise anywhere on earth then it is here, it is here, it is here, it is here, it is here.
“It is the responsibility of all of us to preserve this paradise on earth and the young generation especially has to fulfill this responsibility,” she said.
Murmu said she was very happy to know that the number of girl students in Kashmir University is 55 percent.
“And of the total number of winners of gold medals and prizes, about 65 percent are girls. I heartily congratulate all the daughters sitting here and give them my blessings. These promising daughters are the picture of our country as well as its destiny,” she said.
The President said the students of Kashmir University have brought glory to the name of this University by serving the country.
Earlier in the day, She paid tribute to the fallen soldiers at the Army headquarters here.
