No signs of thaw, RS adjourned till 2 PM

Date:

Amid no signs of thaw between the government and opposition parties over the Manipur issue, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Thursday till 2 pm, with the Leader of Opposition (LoP) Mallikarjun Kharge insisting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence in the House.

“Let the Prime Minister come to the House. We will discuss the issue in his presence. What will happen if the Prime Minister Comes? Is he Parmatma. This is the (Upper) House. He is not God,” Kharge said.

At this point, members of the Treasury benches protested, and the scene became chaotic. The House Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, then adjourned the House till 2 pm amid a ruckus.

Notably, the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, 2023, is listed in the Rajya Sabha for introduction day.

The bill scheduled for introduction by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal seeks to regulate the appointment, conditions of service, and term of office of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners.
