Members of the Opposition BJP in Odisha on Saturday created a ruckus in the house forcing Speaker Pramila Mallick to adjourn the house at 1031 hours till 1600 hrs.
As soon as the house assembled to take up te question hour business, the BJP members trooped into the well of the house and shouted slogans demanding the lifting of the suspension of two its members by the Speaker on Thursday and expunge of the derogatory remark made by Arun Sahu (BJD) on the mental health of the Leader of Opposition Jayanarayan Mishra.
After the house met Speaker asked Sudhir Samal (BJD) to raise his question but before he went ahead with the question, the BJP members rushed to the well and protested in the house.
Two BJP MLAs— Mohan Charan Majhi and Mukesh Mahaling were suspended for the rest of the session after they allegedly threw pulses at the Speaker’s podium on Thursday.
BJP members were demanding the withdrawal of the suspension of its two MLAs and to expunge the derogatory ‘mental disorder’ statement of ruling party leader Arun Sahu directed at the Leader of the Opposition from the record of the House.
Realising that the business of the house could not be conducted smoothly any more the Speaker adjourned the house at 1031 hours till 1600hrs.
The house could not conduct the question hour, zero hour business and also could not take up the debate on the adjournment motion due to the protest by the BJP members.
Outside the house BJP legislature leader J N Mishra said the rulin BJD does not want the house to run and deliberately adjourning the house.
Mishra said whenever any impasse prevails in the house the Speaker calls an all party meeting and try to resolve the deadlock. But the present speaker is not doing it.
He alleged that the Speaker is acting as a toy in the hands of the ruling BJD and not able to rise above the party politics.
