Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday protested in Srinagar against the ongoing land eviction drive in Jammu and Kashmir.
Holding placards the slogan shouting, party workers hit Srinagar streets demanding immediate halt of the ongoing land eviction drive from the government. The protest started from the PDP office near Municipal Park Srinagar.
Talking to media persons PDP spokesperson Najmu Saqib alleged that two to three marlas of land were being evicted and their properties also demolished leaving them on the mercy of Almighty all across the J&K.
“The government of India legalizes illegally constructed colonies in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra and Delhi while as in Jammu and Kashmir the poor people are being evicted from their homes,” he said
Saqib alleged that the motive behind the land eviction drive of the government’s policy to get votes from the poor and fetch notes from the rich
“The ongoing land eviction drive is just to divide Kashmir and make people homeless”, he said.
The J&K administration has gone into overdrive to remove encroachments from “state” land, including Kahcharai (grazing land) and the land that fell under the Roshni scheme.
While there has been an uproar over the government order from political parties and common people, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha had stressed that the poor people would not be touched and only powerful people who misused their position to encroach upon the State land would be evicted.
The government evicted hundreds of kanals of alleged encroached land during the ongoing drive, including from the high profile political leaders in Kashmir valley.
