RS adjourns till 12 pm

The Rajya Sabha adjourned till noon, minutes after the proceedings began on Tuesday with Opposition continuing its demand of suspension of business to discuss price rise, hike in GST, alleged misuse of central agencies among others.

Opposition MPs, including KC Venugopal, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Anil Desai, Binoy Viswam, Raghav Chadha, Deependra Singh had given notices to discuss their issues under Rule 267.

“The notices have not been admitted. They can be discussed in the normal course.

“Once I have taken a decision, there can be no further discussion. Everything is important, you want the House to be adjourned till tomorrow,” said Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu before adjourning the proceedings.

A short duration discussion on price rise is listed later in the day.

As per the order paper of the House, Elamaram Kareem, Bikash Bhattacharya, John Brittas, AA Rahim, V. Sivadasan, Keshava Rao, KR Suresh Reddy, B. Lingaiah Yadav, Derek O’ Brien, Mausam Noor, Santanu Sen, Rajni Ashikrao Patil, Phulo Devi Netam, Fauzia Khan, Manoj Kumar Jha and P. Wilson will raise the issue of rising prices of essential items in the House.

The Lok Sabha took up the discussion on price rise on Monday.

“After 2 weeks of obstinacy and cussedness, and because of sustained Opposition pressure, Modi Sarkar agreed to debate price rise in LS today. FM’s reply was as expected a denial that a problem exists. Households across the country will disagree with her. Tomorrow debate in RS,” Congress national spokeperson Jairam Ramesh tweeted.

The government is also set to move ‘The Family Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2022’ for passing and consideration in the lower House on Tuesday.
