SC: Telangana HC must place hearing on bail application of accused Avinash Reddy on May 25

Date:

Supreme Court in its order on Tuesday directed Telangana High Court to place on May 25, before a vacation bench, the hearing on the anticipatory bail application of Lok Sabha Member Y S Avinash Reddy, an accused in the murder case of YS Vivekananda Reddy.

The Apex Court declined to grant accused Avinash the interim protection with regards to the summons issued by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case.

The Supreme Court’s two-judge vacation bench, headed by Justice J K Maheshwari, and also comprising Justice P S Narasimha, was hearing the application filed by N Suneetha Reddy, the daughter of the slain former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy, challenging the decision of Andhra Pradesh High Court to grant Avinash Reddy interim protection from arrest.

The Apex cyourt, during the course of the hearing, observed that it is “not happy” with Telangana High Court not deciding anticipatory bail application of YS Avinash Reddy, accused in murder case of YS Vivekananda Reddy, even after SC orders it.

Thereby the Apex Court directed the listing before Telangana High Court vacation bench on May 25 for a decision.

The Apex Court said so, after it being apprised that although the matter was heard twice, no orders were passed.

“We are not happy with it that court not passing an order after our order. How much time does it require to pass an order in anticipatory bail,” the Apex Court observed.
