TN Guv leaves Assembly without delivering customary New Year Address

Date:

Amid differences over a host of issues between the Raj Bhavan and

the ruling DMK, Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi on Monday arrived for delivering his customary

New Year address to the Legislative Assembly, but left the house without delivering it.

After recital of the traditional Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu prayer song, invoking the blessings of

Tamil Mother God, the Governor left the House in a huff without delivering his customary New Year

address prepared by the government to the House. .

This was for the thrid year in a row that the Governor’s spat with the State government in

the house continued.

After skipping references to Dravidian Model governance and a few lines and deviating from

the prepared text in 2023, the Governor had read only the first two paras and the last para of the address

prepared by the DMK government last year (in 2024).

The State Assembly had adopted a resolution against the Governor’s act last year.

And this year too, he came but left without delivering his address.

Later, a Raj Bhavan communique said the Governor had not delivered the address due to

insult caused by non-recital of the National Anthem
