Uproar in UP Legislative Council as Opposition slams govt on unfulfilled promises, poor governance

Date:

A heated exchange erupted in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council today as Samajwadi Party MLC Lal Bihari Yadav clashed with Council Chairman Manvendra Pratap Singh, accusing the Yogi government of dodging real issues and mocking the dream of “Viksit Bharat 2047”.
The confrontation began when Yadav complained that the Chairman often interrupted him and prolonged the discussions unnecessarily. “Had you not interrupted, I would have finished my point,” Yadav said. In response, the Chairman urged him to listen to the Leader of the House.
Yadav, however, stood his ground. “If we are not satisfied with the government’s statements, it is our right to walk out. But after our walkout, there was a discussion against me for half an hour,” he alleged. When the Chairman expressed disbelief, Yadav challenged him to review the footage.
Yadav continued his protest, stating, “If I was absent, then at least God was present. What action do you want against me? Whatever is left, just announce it in the House. I can’t cure your allergy towards me.”
The situation intensified when BJP’s Umesh Dwivedi questioned under which rule Yadav was speaking. Yadav shot back sharply, “We created them, and now they are teaching us?”
Meanwhile, the Council witnessed a series of adjournment motions raised under Rule 105, addressing pressing issues ranging from declining health services to education sector concerns.
However, all motions were ultimately rejected for adjournment by the Chairperson, Kunwar Manvendra Singh, who directed the matters be referred to the state government for necessary action.
Members from the Samajwadi Party, including Lal Bihari Yadav, Rajendra Chaudhary, Dr. Man Singh Yadav, Mukul Yadav, Ashutosh Sinha, Balram Yadav, and others, raised serious concerns over the deteriorating condition of health services in the state and alleged corruption within the healthcare system.
During the discussion, Mukul Yadav, Jasmeer Ansari, and Balram Yadav shared their views on the admissibility of the notice. Minister of State Mayankeshwar Singh informed the House with relevant facts. Despite the urgency of the issue, the Chairperson denied the adjournment and directed the government to take appropriate action.
Independent Group members Rajbahadur Singh Chandel and Dr. Akash Agrawal presented a notice regarding the regularization of deputed teachers from Obra Inter College, Sonbhadra, into government secondary schools. Rajbahadur Singh Chandel addressed the admissibility of the motion, while Minister of State (Independent Charge) Smt. Gulab Devi provided clarifications. The motion was similarly not admitted for adjournment and referred to the government for action.
Dhruv Kumar Tripathi of the Teachers’ Group raised an issue concerning the cancellation of a government order dated April 28, 2025, affecting the secondary education department. He also demanded the restoration of specific provisions (Sections 12, 18, and 21) from the Selection Board Act into the original Intermediate Education Act.
The motion was supported in discussion by Samajwadi Party’s Lal Bihari Yadav. Minister Gulab Devi addressed the concerns, but as with the previous motions, the adjournment was not granted. The matter has been referred to the state government for necessary follow-up.
