Agartala, 15th August 2026 : The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and a deep sense of national pride at the University campus on Saturday.
The celebration commenced at the D. D. Lapang Block (Amenity Centre) in the presence of Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Hon’ble Chancellor, Prof GD Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr AC Kataki, Director Medical Administration, Principals, Deans, faculty members, staff and students.
The occasion witnessed the honouring of the 150 years of Vande Mataram, followed by the ceremonial hoisting of the Tricolour, the National Anthem and the oath-taking ceremony.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Mahbubul Hoque reflected on India’s remarkable journey since Independence and emphasised the role of the younger generation in shaping the country’s future.
The celebration resonated with the national vision of “Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat @2047”, highlighting the energy, ideas, aspirations and capabilities of India’s youth as key drivers of national development.
The programme also featured the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pledge, led by representatives of Brahma Kumaris, reaffirming USTM’s commitment towards building a healthy, responsible and empowered youth population.
Adding vibrancy to the celebrations, USTM students participated in a Flag March, a special patriotic performance and the Tricolour Balloon Release. The Independence Day celebration continued with recreational games and the final match of the Inter-Departmental Football Tournament.
As the Tricolour soared high over the USTM campus, the celebration echoed a collective resolve to contribute towards a stronger, progressive and Viksit Bharat @2047.
