Sangeet Natak Akademi Award winner and veteran theatre personality Manoj Mitra, who acted in the movies directed by Satyajit Ray and Tapan Sinha, died at a city hospital on Tuesday, family sources said.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled the demise of Mitra, who breathed his last in a private hospital at around 8 50 AM on Tuesday.
Mitra was admitted to the hospital with breathing trouble and other age-related problems. Mitra wrote over 100 plays and won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Best Playwright in 1985 and among many other
accolades.
Mitra earned fame for his performances in the motion pictures like Tapan Sinha’s Banchharamer Bagan and Satyajit Ray’s classics Ghare Baire and Ganashatru He also acted in the films of eminent Directors like Basu Chatterjee, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, and Tarun Majumdar.
