Jamshedpur FC head coach Khalid Jamil shared his delight at securing all three points away from home, as his team staged a comeback win against FC Goa in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here in Goa on Tuesday night.
The Gaurs created numerous offensive opportunities from the start, applying significant pressure on the Men of Steel’s defence. Manolo Marquez’s team took a 1-0 lead at halftime, courtesy of Armando Sadiku’s powerful strike.
Jamshedpur FC found their way into the game in the second half, with Javier Siverio equalizing from the penalty spot. Jordan Murray then scored with a precise right-footed shot in the 93rd minute, beating FC Goa goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani at the near post. This late goal secured Jamil’s men an away victory to start their campaign.
“It’s an away game against a good team. As I said yesterday, we must get a positive result (from this game). We got it, and that is very good,” Jamil said in the post-match press conference.
Despite FC Goa’s relentless attacks, the Jamshedpur FC defence led by Stephen Eze stood firm, absorbing the pressure effectively. Albino Gomes made several crucial saves in the opening quarter to deny the Gaurs’ attempts at goal.
Jamil expressed his delight in how his players showcased their character in the second half to complete a comeback win.
Speaking in context, he stated, “This is football. You have to be clinical in converting (your chances). Today, everything went our way.”
“The first half was not up to the mark; they (FC Goa) played well. Albino (Gomes) was good; he saved many chances. The defence was good. We came back (in the second half). Jordan (Murray) came in and made the difference. Good combination among him, Javi (Hernandez) and (Javier) Siverio. Everybody worked hard, and we played as a team. That’s a good point,” Jamil explained.
“I am happy to get three away points, and that’s the most important thing,” he remarked.
Jamil now aims to build on their win and is determined to deliver another strong performance against Mumbai City FC in their next home fixture.
“We must believe in ourselves in what we can do. We have to prepare, and we should not be overconfident,” he said.
“The next game is also a big game in our home ground. We have to be prepared, and we must get positive results,” he signed off.
