The opposition political parties, including Tipra Motha, Congress, and CPIM, staged a walkout during the ongoing budget session after the Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly suspended five MLAs for allegedly disrupting the decorum of the house during a protest.
The opposition parties initiated the protest when Animesh Debbarma, the leader of the opposition and TIPRA Motha MLA, inquired about the status of his Adjournment Motion regarding the actions taken against BJP MLA Jadab Lal Nath. Nath had been caught allegedly watching obscene videos during the last assembly session in March of this year.
However, when the speaker refused to allow them to speak and instead asked the Finance Minister, Pranajit Singha Roy, to present the budget for the 2023-24 Financial Year, the opposition leaders descended into the well of the house and demanded strict action against BJP MLA Nath.
During the protest, three MLAs from Tipra Motha, namely Brishaketu Debbarma and Ranjit Debbarma, climbed onto a table in the house and continued their protest.
In response to this, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha requested the Speaker to suspend five opposition MLAs from the session for disturbing and undermining the decorum of the house during the budget session.
Consequently, the Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Biswabandhu Sen, suspended Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, Tipra Motha MLAs Birshaketu Debbarma, Ranjit Debbarma, and Nandita Reang, as well as CPIM MLA Nayan Sarkar, from today’s session.
In protest against this decision, the opposition leaders have walked out of the house.
